Just a few memories that will stay with me forever.

If we are fortunate enough in our lifetime we’ll meet at least one person who will have a huge positive effect on us and help shape our character. When I was a 12 year old boy, I was angry and was probably heading for a life of violence and crime. By ‘chance’ I met a man who commanded respect, was firm, but fair. I learned much from him, but particularly I learnt respect for others and self-discipline (which I so lacked).
I fondly remember the times when I couldn’t make my own way from the changing rooms, down a flight of stairs to the edge of the swimming pool, (no accessible/disabled changing rooms in the 70s). This ‘giant’ of a man carried me liked Saint Christopher would have and threw me in the deep end! He was a true family man, but gave up so many hours to help and guide me and dozens of other boys like me. When I became a man and had children of my own I would meet him at church and we often chatted.
Today I learned of his passing and I’m not ashamed to say it floored me and I shed tears.
My thoughts now go out to his wonderful family who must be devastated.
I’m reminded at times like these that we have a limited time on this planet and we are here primarily to help others who need our guidance, love and support. Thank you Ken (Captain) for everything you did for me 🙏🏻 Rest in peace. 😢 Marc Pitman
